Listening note-taking shorthand
Lectures move at 130+ words per minute. Trying to write full words is a guaranteed loss of detail. Use shorthand, capture structure, and abbreviate ruthlessly.

- Column 1 — Main topic (top of page, all caps).
- Column 2 — Subpoints (key claims, theories, definitions).
- Column 3 — Examples (linked back to subpoint with arrows).
- Column 4 — Cues ("?", "contrast", "important") for review.
What to capture (and what to skip)
- ALWAYS capture: definitions, dates, names, lists, contrasts ("however", "in contrast").
- Skip: filler phrases, repetition, the professor's anecdotes (unless they illustrate the main point).
- Always note when the professor changes topic with a transition word.
