TOEFL 2026 practice test: what changed and how to practice

TOEFL iBT changed its score scale and task mix. Use this guide to practice the current format without confusing old 0-120 mock scores for the primary result.

Score scale first

TOEFL iBT now uses a 1.0-6.0 scale; 6.0 is the top score. Old 0-120 scores are comparison points. Common planning shortcuts are 4.0 (80 comparable), 4.5 (90 comparable), and 5.0+ (100+ comparable). Treat any FluentMock old-style score as a practice estimate, not an official TOEFL prediction.

  4. For Writing and Speaking, compare your response against the rubric and sample before doing another task.

What a useful TOEFL 2026 practice test should include

  • Primary 1.0-6.0 score language, with 0-120 shown only as a comparable score.
  • Current task types clearly separated from legacy TOEFL-style practice.
  • Immediate explanations for objective questions and self-review rubrics for productive tasks.
  • A next action after the test: weak task type, timed drill, or review queue.
